Dyson facing marathon in Madrid

Spaniard Carlos Rodiles took a two-stroke lead into the final round of the Spanish Open in Madrid today, but the rain-lashed tournament will mean a long slog on Sunday for the leaders.

The Malaga golfer, winner of the European Tour qualifying school last November, had to play 14 holes of his third round this morning following rain delays on the first three days.

Weather watch: Simon Dyson, who shares the lead, faces another long day in Madrid

He covered them in five under for a 14-under aggregate, birdies at the 16th and 17th taking him clear of the chasing pack.

England's Simon Dyson was in second place after matching Rodiles's 66, but owed his position to South African Charl Schwartzel double-bogeying the last after climbing to 13 under.

Rodiles' lead went to three strokes just as he prepared to tee off again only 30 minutes later.

That was because Dyson resumed with a bogey six to slip into a tie for second with Schwartzel and India's Jyoti Randhawa, who remarkably had been five over after 13 holes of his first round and was now 11 under with 14 to play.

Rodiles came back with a birdie at the 13th, but with Schwartzel and Dyson each picking up two more there was a three-way tie on 12 under.

Indian Jyoti Randhawa was in fourth place on 10 under following a 66. Incredibly, he had been five over after 13 holes of his opening round.

The three-shot lead did not last long. Rodiles bogeyed the fourth after finding thick rough off the tee and taking two attempts to get out and when Randhawa had a hat-trick of birdies from the sixth the 34-year-old from New Delhi went one ahead.

Schwartzel caught Randhawa with a huge birdie putt on the eighth, but Randhawa's approach to the 12th finished less than three feet from the flag and he nosed in front again on 15 under.

Rodiles' 15-footer at the ninth then brought him back alongside Schwartzel.
