Ecclestone: Hamilton will win 'quite easily'

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone believes Lewis Hamilton will win the drivers' title "quite easily" in Brazil today.

The rights-holder also believes Hamilton's team McLaren have no reason to favour Hamilton over team-mate, title rival and defending champion Fernando Alonso, because the 22-year-old rookie is so good.

One for the road: Lewis Hamilton is one race away from glory

"Of course it's fair. All the races are fair," he told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek.

"If McLaren were favouring one driver I doubt whether we would ever find out, it's that easy. There are a million things people could do if they wanted to favour one driver.

"I don't think they need to favour anybody, I think Lewis will win quite easily so I don't think there is any necessity to favour anybody.

"Just look at his CV and you'll see the reason. He's proved it. He's the new kid on the block and he's leading the world championship in the last race."

Asked whether the 'spy saga' involving McLaren possessing Ferrari technical information has tarnished the sport, Ecclestone said no - but admitted the English team have been affected,

"No. That was something that happened between the two teams," he said.

"I think McLaren must have suffered for sure."

When McLaren were kicked out of the constructors' championship as punishment for the scandal, Ecclestone was in favour of the drivers escaping punishment. But he admits FIA president Max Mosley was correct in his claims Hamilton and Alonso should also have been deducted points.

"I was campaigning for them not to take points from drivers.

"Max was probably right, actually. If the team had an advantage, therefore the drivers had an advantage. And should they have an advantage? The answer is no.

"He is right on the regulations. The regulations say if the car loses points, the driver loses points as well."
