Eduardo could be out of Euro decider after new setback

Eduardo could miss the second leg of the Champions League semi‑final after injuring his groin within seconds of coming on at Old Trafford.

The unlucky Arsenal striker was hurt in a challenge with Rio Ferdinand, who damaged his own ribs in the incident.

Eduardo is definitely out of Saturday's visit to Portsmouth and is a doubt for Tuesday's second leg against Manchester United.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: "Eduardo has done his groin again unfortunately. Rio Ferdinand fell on him when he had that accident. His knee went on his groin and that detached some fibres."

Defender Mikael Silvestre also has a groin injury and Wenger added: "We have not scanned either of them yet, so we don't know about Tuesday, but they both miss Saturday for sure."

Eduardo was only introduced for the final 10 minutes of the tie and the injury is a cruel blow for a player who fought back from a horrific broken leg.

The 26-year-old returned to action in February after almost a year out, scoring twice in the FA Cup victory over Cardiff.

Immediately after the game, he described it as "the best day of my life" but then learned he had suffered a hamstring injury ruling him out for another three weeks. On his return he then damaged his groin against Roma.
