Embattled Sanchez defends his record

Lawrie Sanchez has defended his side's form in the face of increasing pressure over Fulham's poor start to the season.

Only a 93rd-minute save with his legs by Antti Niemi from Anthony Stokes spared his side from another blank away-day in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland.

Sanchez's Fulham have only been beaten by two sides this season

Tottenham's defeat yesterday leaves Fulham clear of the bottom three but the club's poor start will certainly have registered in the boardroom.

Sanchez, however, remains defiant and is convinced his team will soon be climbing the league.

The Fulham boss said: "Only two teams have beaten us this season; Portsmouth, who have beaten most teams, and Middlesbrough, and as far as I am concerned that was not three points [David Healy's late goal was ruled not to have crossed the line].

"I've seen some results in the Premier League — sixes and sevens — but 2-0 by Portsmouth is our worst result."

Despite Sanchez's defence, Fulham had little excuse for not picking up three points on Saturday.

Healy was guilty of a glaring miss before Simon Davies curled a free-kick beyond Craig Gordon.

Fulham, however, just couldn't put their opponent's away despite dominating the first half.

A second yellow card for Greg Halford saw Sunderland down to 10 men for the final 23 minutes, yet Kenwyne Jones still managed to equalise with four minutes left.
