End of the road for Webb as UEFA announce Euro 2008 retained refs

English referee Howard Webb will not be retained for the knockout stages at
Euro 2008.
He got it right: But Howard Webb's Euro 2008 is over
Tournament organisers UEFA today appointed officials to the last two
quarter-finals and revealed those which could be involved in the remaining matches.
Webb was not included on either list with Holland v Russia on Saturday going to Slovakia's Lubos Michel and Herbert Fandel of Germany taking charge of Spain v Italy on Sunday.
UEFA also announced a shortlist of eight candidates to take charge of the semi-finals and final.
Webb oversaw two matches during the group stages, courting huge controversy in the first by awarding Austria a last-minute penalty against Poland in Vienna.
He received death threats as a result of his decision and the Polish prime minister even waded in with fierce criticism.
UEFA backed Webb and later appointed him to Wednesday's encounter between Spain and Greece in Salzburg.
