England flop McClaren desperate for Blackburn Rovers job

Steve McClaren is in desperate pursuit of the vacant manager's job at Blackburn Rovers but looks likely to be left on the sidelines again.
The former England coach, 47, is in Holland talking to FC Twente, who reportedly offered him a job last week, but is keen on a higher-profile return to management.
His name is being touted to Blackburn by his representatives but Ewood Park chairman John Williams seems to be looking in other directions.
Flop: Steve McClaren
Williams, attending the Premier League chairmen's meeting yesterday and today, is believed to want a younger, more dynamic up-and-coming coach to replace Mark Hughes.
He has called a board meeting for Monday when a short list will be finalised with Paul Ince and Alan Shearer featuring prominently.
Williams is keen on Ince but Blackburn have not yet made an official approach to MK Dons for their manager, who is much sought-after following his success with the League Two champions.
Shearer, who won the League as a player with the Lancashire club, remains the popular choice and was voted the No 1 candidate by a supporters' poll in a Blackburn newspaper.
The former Newcastle and England striker has confirmed that he is interested, although whether he is yet ready to make the move into management is questionable given his burgeoning media career.
Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz says Manchester United are interested in taking him to Old Trafford.
The Paraguay international, who scored 23 goals in his Barclays Premier League debut season, said: 'The interest from Manchester United is real. My representatives will handle anything if there is a concrete offer.'
It remains to be seen whether former Rovers boss Hughes tries to lure Santa Cruz to Manchester City.
The striker's father, Aproniano, claims City made an £11million bid in January but added: 'It would take considerably more to convince Rovers to sell now.'
