England put their faith in Moores

England cricket chiefs moved with unusual speed to appoint ECB Academy director Peter Moores as Duncan Fletcher's successor on Friday, promising that the new coach will retain his position on the selectors' panel.

The 44-year-old former Sussex coach will leave his position at Loughborough immediately and take up permanent responsibilities with England on May 1.

It is thought that his replacement at Loughborough will be former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower, who is expected to leave his playing role at Essex.

ECB chief executive David Collier said: "Peter has been identified for some time as a leading candidate to be a future England coach."

Moores said: "It is an honour to have been appointed head coach and I look forward to meeting up with the players on their return to the UK."
