England women paid £40 a day during World Cup

Eniola Aluko exposed the inequality between the sexes yesterday, revealing that the England women's team earned just £40 a day during the World Cup in September.

The 20-year-old striker said fitness levels are falling as players cannot afford the time to train properly.

'We are all grateful that we went to the World Cup but some had to take unpaid leave and are not able to sustain training,' she said.

'They don't have the time because of the money lost in China. 'Two months later they are still working to recoup the money.'
