English golf stars qualify for US Open

Englishmen Simon Khan and Simon Dyson secured-last gasp places at next month's US Open after two qualifying rounds at Walton Heath.

Seventy-five players were competing on two courses for 11 places and Khan and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin finished on nine under, with Dyson one shot back.

Peter Hanson, in a seven-man play-off after finishing five under, won through with a hole-in-one.

Khan said: "I decided to have a look on the Bethpage website and went through all 18 holes. It looks fantastic and it means a lot to me to make it through to a US Open for the first time."

Dyson said: "I just hope it's not as hard as Pinehurst was four years ago. That was too hard."
