Entertain? No, a player’s sole job is to be a winner

The only responsibility the two teams had was to achieve victory, take the FA Cup back to their club, win the historic first game at Wembley.

Duty done: John Terry, Frank Lampard and Claude Makelele celebrate victory
Football is about winning, it is about results. Anything else is a romantic notion. Manchester United have entertained us all season. From Cristiano Ronaldo to Wayne Rooney to Paul Scholes. They have been the Premiership's great entertainers.
It was not a wonderful game. Nerves kicked in, nobody wanted to make a mistake, the formations cancelled out each other, both teams played safe. There was not a lot of dare and United, with their five in midfield, played a lot of long, diagonal balls.
But there is so much to admire about Chelsea. They are a team of winners, with a strong and determined mentality that makes them so hard to beat.
Look at Arsenal. They play fabulous football, clever little touches, beautiful one-touch play. If you had the choice, you might opt to watch them rather than Chelsea. But how many trophies have Arsenal won this season? Chelsea are not the most pleasing on the eye, but I'd rather play for — and I'd rather support — a team that wins trophies than a team that wins beauty contests for their entertainment factor.
And it is also too simplistic to say that Chelsea do not entertain at all. Look at the winning goal at Wembley. A clever pass around the corner, a stunning weighted return from Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba's finish.
Ask Chelsea supporters if they were entertained by that goal.
Deal or no deal
You would fancy your chances against a Chelsea team without John Terry and Frank Lampard.
It is baffling as to why they are allowing their contract dispute to continue. They are the heart of the club.
If the club are paying Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack £130,000-a-week for their contribution, then the two England players are entitled to feel they deserve parity.
This is a big summer for Chelsea. Do they want to continue making progress or will they fall backwards?
Where is the new Saha?
United were one player short and they need another Louis Saha, fit and firing; they need their own equivalent of Didier Drogba.
Wayne Rooney put in a top performance, but that is not his best position.
There is a lot of talk about Michael Owen — and I am a massive fan — but he is more effective playing off another front man.
Will United take a look at Darren Bent and consider if the Charlton striker, with little international experience and none playing in the Champions League, is good enough?
Alan Pardew, his manager, thinks he is. He speaks very highly of Bent's qualities and believes that he can play at the highest level. Does Sir Alex Ferguson? United have adapted their 4-4-2 system to a similar way of playing to Chelsea, with five in midfield and Rooney drifting in off the left. It was effective when Henrik Larsson was at the club on loan and Rooney did not have to do the front-running donkey work, taking the hits from the centre backs.
Saha is an impact striker, who is quick and will score goals, but his injuries have interrupted him at United and they may want to add more firepower to their team in the summer, a striker who can hold up the ball and lead the line, a striker who will score goals too. A striker like Drogba.
Where was Ronaldo?
This should have been his stage. I thought it would be game-on for him, really thought he would thrive, but he came up against Paulo Ferreira in one of his better games and never really got any change out of him.
He was strangely quiet. When he went to the line, he was forced to cross with his left and when he was shown inside into traffic, Claude Makelele was there to block his route.
I saw Ronaldo on Thursday night as he collected the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year award to complete a hat-trick of the top awards and he has been brilliant this season, but this became one game too many for him. He deserves his rest.
Top Drog
If I could have chosen the match-winner, it would have been Didier Drogba.
He has been second to Ronaldo in all the top awards, but a season with 33 goals does not deserve second place.
When I met him recently I was bowled over with his care and passion for the game, his dedication and his determination. He is not a footballer who collects his money and does not love his occupation. He is a worthy FA Cup winner.
History will also remember him as the first goalscorer in an FA Cup Final at the new Wembley and also the first match-winner at the new stadium.
