Eriksson adds new twist to Thai's City bid

The Thai faction trying to pull off the £90million buy-out of Manchester City have turned their attention to Sven Goran Eriksson.

A month ago suggestions that the former England coach may replace Stuart Pearce were ridiculed at City and by those advising the takeover bid of former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Eriksson: Could be back in business

But as City try to lure Juande Ramos from Sevilla, Shinawatra was yesterday talking about a move for Eriksson.

BRYAN ROBSON hopes to agree a loan deal for Celtic's Thomas Gravesen. The Dane, 31, was frozen out by Gordon Strachan towards the end of last season and is keen to move. Robson sees him as the man who could drive Sheffield United towards a return to the Premiership.

WEST HAM have been rebuffed after making an enquiry for Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy. The £10million-rated South African marksman, who scored 18 League goals last season, is also admired by Chelsea and Aston Villa.

NEWCASTLE boss Sam Allardyce was last night on the verge of completing his third summer signing after agreeing terms with PSG for £2million Czech defender David Rozehnal, 26, who had been strongly linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund.

BIRMINGHAM have dropped their interest in Fulham's Zat Knight, 27, to chase defender Oguchi Onyewu, 25, who was on loan at Newcastle from Standard Liege. Manager Steve Bruce, whose £3million bid for West Ham's Marlon Harewood was rejected, also wants Cardiff winger Joe Ledley.
