The Gunners are still looking for a holding midfielder to replace Mathieu Flamini and made a bid for 32-year-old Senna.

It's a no Gunner: Senna is happy at Villarreal and wants to win the Spanish title.

The powerful midfielder, who was previously a target for Manchester United, revealed: "It is true that I have had offers from Arsenal, Juventus and Fenerbahce following the Euros, but I just want to stay at Villarreal where I am happiest.

"I hope this season we can fight for the Spanish title and I think I can contribute to a team that is getting better and better.

"Last season with Villarreal was incredible and then to win the European Championships was just the icing on the cake."
