The Seville side had just fallen 2-1 behind at home to fellow relegation strugglers Athletic Bilbao when a bottle full of liquid flew out of the stands and struck visiting keeper Armando Ribeiro just below the right eye.
The keeper needed stitches for a cut and was stretchered off, but home fans immediately detained the 40-year-old culprit, who was released on Monday after paying 3,000 euros bail.

Bilbao have called for strong sanctions and for the game to be awarded to them, quoting the actions UEFA took last year when a fan ran on the pitch to confront the referee causing the abandonment of a Euro 2008 qualifier between Denmark and Sweden that was tied at 3-3.
UEFA awarded Sweden a 3-0 victory, fined Denmark 50,000 Swiss francs ($41,490) and ordered them to play their next two home qualifiers at least 140 km (87 miles) away from the capital.
Betis have asked for the remaining minutes to be played, saying it is wrong to punish the majority of fans, who quickly helped to apprehend the person who threw the bottle, because of the actions of an individual who is not a season-ticket holder.
They are helped, in a way, by a similar incident at their ground last season when Tottenham coach Juande Ramos, then in charge of Seville, was knocked out after being hit by a bottle thrown from the stands in a King's Cup quarter-final.
That game was abandoned and the remaining 33 minutes played behind closed doors at Getafe's stadium while Betis were given a three-match stadium ban.
Meanwhile, Madrid continued their record of not having won at Deportivo since 1991 as they went down 1-0 to an own goal by Brazilian defender Pepe.
Their lead was only cut to seven points, however, as Barcelona's poor away form cost them again as they could only draw 2-2 at Almeria.
Barca twice took the lead through teenage striker Bojan Krkic - preferred to Thierry Henry - and Samuel Eto'o, who was set up by sub Henry, but Kalu Uche headed an 85th-minute equaliser.
Villarreal, fresh from a 2-1 win at Barca, are now only two points behind them after goals by Nihat Kahveci and a Giuseppe Rossi penalty secured a 2-0 win over Zaragoza.
Sevilla are up to fourth as they continue making amends for a shocking start to the season as they won 2-1 at crisis club Valencia with a double from much in-demand Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano, who now has 22 for the season.
The leaders in Germany, Bayern Munich, also lost as they went down 2-0 at bottom club Cottbus for only their second defeat in 24 matches.
Serbian striker Branko Jelic scored both goals in the first half, either side of a Franck Ribery penalty miss, to haul the eastern side from bottom place to 15th, just out of the relegation zone.
Bayern's defence looked shaky, not helped by the club suspension of Argentine defender Martin Dimichelis, sanctioned by coach Ottmar Hitzfeld for refusing to play in midfield.
Bayern are not too concerned, however, as main challengers Werder Bremen are fast fading, suffering a third defeat in four league matches, 1-0 at home to Wolfsburg, to go on top of their midweek UEFA Cup exit against Rangers.
Hamburg are now second, five points behind Bayern, as a Paolo Guerrero goal was enough to beat Dortmund, and Leverkusen are third after thumping Nuremberg 4-1.
In Italy, Inter put a difficult week behind them to maintain their six-point lead over Roma by beating Palermo 2-1.
Shaken by Champions League exit to Liverpool and Roberto Mancini's knee-jerk decision to resign in the summer, which was then swiftly rescinded, Inter scored early on through Patrick Vieira, and Luis Jimenez hit a first-half winner after an own goal by Marco Materazzi.
Roma are hanging on to their coat-tails, just about, as they came from behind at home to AC Milan to win 2-1. Trailing to Kaka's 56th-minute goal with just 12 minutes left, subs Ludovic Giuly and Mirko Vucinic scored within three minutes of each other to keep the title race just about open.
Milan are now back in danger of missing out on the Champions League as they trail Fiorentina by four points after the latter's 3-1 win over Genoa, helped by a superb 15th League goal of the season from Adrian Mutu.
Juventus are four points ahead of Fiorentina in third after Vincenzo Iaquinta grabbed the only goal at home to Napoli just two minutes from time.
Lyon maintained their six-point advantage in France with an easy 3-0 win at Monaco. All the goals came in the first half, with reserve striker Kader Keita grabbing two of them.
Bordeaux kept their hopes alive by thumping Strasbourg 3-0, thanks to two headers from defender Henrique and a 10th goal in the last 10 League games from Argentine striker Fernando Cavenaghi.
Those two are well clear, but Marseille missed the chance to close the gap on third-placed Nancy from three points as they let slip a 2-0 lead at Lens and needed a last-minute goal from Djibril Cisse to force even a 3-3 draw.
The main point of interest in France is whether capital giants Paris St Germain can escape the drop. They needed an 80th minute header from captain Pauleta to force a 1-1 draw at home to Valenciennes and stay out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.
Constantly abused at the Parc des Princes by their infuriated fans, PSG have only won two of their 15 home games and scored just 25 in 29 matches overall, but it would still be a huge shock if they went out of a weak division.
