European football review - Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Le Championnat

AC Milan are in serious danger of failing to qualify for the Champions League after a 3-2 defeat at old rivals Juventus left them four points off fourth spot with only five games to go.

The Rossoneri put in one of their better performances of a hugely disappointing season as they hit back from conceding an early goal to Alessandro Del Piero to lead with a Filippo Inzaghi double.

Bosnian midfielder Hasan Salihamidzic drew the sides level before the break and then headed a winner with 10 minutes left to make Juventus almost certain of third spot.

The gap to fourth did not extend as Inter Milan put recent wobbles behind them to beat fourth-placed Fiorentina 2-0 with second-half goals by Esteban Cambiasso and 17-year-old Mario Balotelli after being frustrated by an inspired display from visiting keeper Sebastien Frey.

Balotelli was again preferred to Hernan Crespo in the absence through injury of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and responded with his second goal in two weeks, again coolly rounding the keeper after being put through.

Roma kept up the pressure on Milan as they won 3-1 at Udinese, one of the clubs vying to take even a UEFA Cup slot from Milan.

Italy striker Antonio Di Natale headed Udinese in front on 52 minutes but Mirko Vucinic levelled with a fine finish, Rodrigo Taddei fired in a shot off the underside of the bar, and Ludovic Giuly made the points safe in injury time.

Francesco Totti made his long-awaited return from injury for Roma but looked well off the pace and was substituted with 15 minutes to go.

At the bottom, Cagliari, who looked dead and buried a few weeks ago, continued their revival with a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Livorno thanks to a Roberto Acquafresca double. The islanders are up to 16th, but only three points off the bottom.

The title race in Spain looks over after Real Madrid laboured to a 1-0 win over lowly Murcia which extended their advantage to nine points with only six games to go.

Madrid lost defender Miguel Torres to a straight red after only 20 minutes, but a moment of brilliance from Wesley Sneijder on the hour secured the points.

Barcelona blew yet another chance to close the gap as they could only draw 2-2 at Recreativo Huelva, but were without Ronaldinho, Bojan Krkic, Deco, Thierry Henry and Andres Iniesta.

Samuel Eto'o at least is in brilliant form after his own serious injury problems, and put Barca ahead after only two minutes but they were pegged back by a controversial equaliser when the referee ruled Victor Valdes had only grabbed Marco Ruben's header over the line.

Eto'o restored the lead with his 14th in 14 games just after the break but Ruben again equalised. Lionel Messi came on as sub for his first game in a month, but could not conjure a winner.

Villarreal failed to overtake Barcelona in the late game as they crashed 1-0 at Almeria to a late goal by Santiago Acasiete, finally folding after playing since the 17th minute with 10 men following a red for Diego Lopez.

Atletico Madrid are only a point clear in fourth as they were held 1-1 at Valladolid after sub Bartholomew Ogbeche levelled in injury time.

Racing Santander are hot on their heels as Mohamed Tchite grabbed an offside winner late on at Valencia to ensure a 2-1 win and keep Ronald Koeman's men deep in trouble.

The title race is also over in Germany as Bayern Munich are now 10 points clear following a 5-0 destruction of Borussia Dortmund in front of another 69,000 sell-out crowd.

League leading scorer Luca Toni scored twice to take his tally to 18 as Bayern scored four in the first 22 minutes against a side they meet next Saturday in the German Cup Final.

Werder Bremen took over second place by thumping rivals Schalke 5-1 despite being dominated for the first half-hour and taking a lead against the run of play through captain Frank Baumann.

Schalke folded in the second half as sub Ivan Klasnic finished them off with two goals, and defeat brought the sack for coach Mirko Slomka, who was harshly treated after taking the club to the last eight of the Champions League.

European places are now the focus, with Schalke only holding the final Champions League spot by a point from Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg.

Leverkusen thumped Stuttgart 3-0 but Hamburg crashed 1-0 at home to bottom club Duisburg and were whistled off by their own fans.

In France, the title race is still just about alive after Lyon conceded a last-minute equaliser to Rennes. Cris had put the leaders in front on 15 minutes with a header, but Stephane M'bia nodded in a corner in injury time.

Bordeaux closed the gap to four points as a double by prolific Argentine striker Fernando Cavenaghi brought a 2-1 win over Caen and earned revenge for a surprise 5-0 thrashing earlier in the season.

Nancy lost 2-1 at Lille, so Marseille took over third on goal difference as they recovered from conceding an early goal at Metz to win 2-1 with strikes by Djibril Cisse and Samir Nasri which consigned their opponents to the drop.

In the relegation struggle, Toulouse stole a march on their rivals by winning at Monaco while Strasbourg, Lens and Paris St Germain all lost to stay on 35 points.

PSG's latest disaster came when they led 2-1 against Nice with seven minutes to go at the Parc des Princes, but conceded an equaliser to Bakary Kone and a winner to Ederson with four minutes left to slump 3-2.
