Manager David Moyes finally secured the 24-year-old Nigeria striker he has pursued for most of the summer when the two clubs agreed the fee — days after Middlesbrough increased their asking price to a reported £12.5m.

Wanted man: Yakubu is on his way to Everton for a record fee
This was taken by many as a strong signal of support for Boro manager Gareth Southgate, who insisted repeatedly that the player was not for sale.
But when he left him out of his squad for last weekend's Premier League win at Fulham and Yakubu missed training earlier this week, the parting of the ways seemed inevitable. Yakubu travelled to Merseyside yesterday and will sign today after a medical.
It will be some relief for Moyes, who has England Under 21 striker James Vaughan out for at least another four months after dislocating a shoulder. The fitness of Andy Johnson is also being monitored after he was sent back from the England squad for last night's match against Germany with water on the knee.
Yakubu, who began his career with Maccabi Haifa, joined Middlesbrough from Portsmouth two years ago for £7.5m and, although Pompey were among the Premier League clubs showing interest, there was never any doubt that Everton were his first choice.
Moyes' earlier record buys were also strikers: James Beattie for £6m from Southampton in January 2005 and Johnson from Crystal Palace for £8.6m last summer. He sold Beattie to Sheffield United for £4m.
