Everton, Chelsea, Pompey and Newcastle set for Nigerian nightmare

Premier League clubs face losing their Nigerian players for up to seven weeks in the new year with Chelsea, Everton, Newcastle and Portsmouth set to be hardest hit.

Nigeria will have a training camp before the African Nations Cup, which gets under way in Ghana on January 20 and runs until February 10.

Double blow: John Utaka (centre) and Nwanko Kanu (left) could both be missing from Portsmouth for seven weeks

There could be 10 players from Premier League clubs called up, and Nigeria coach Berti Vogts said: "There will be a two-week training camp and all the players will be there. They will not be allowed to arrive later."

Portsmouth are likely to lose John Utaka and Nwanko Kanu, Everton will miss cetnre half Joseph Yobo, Chelsea face being without John Obi Mikel and Obafemi Martins will head off from Newcastle.

Wigan are also likely to lose bit-part forward Julius Aghahowa.
