Everton's bid hit by Cahill KO

Tim Cahill could be out for the rest of the season amid fears he has suffered a recurrence of his broken metatarsal.

The Everton midfielder had to be helped off after only 10 minutes of Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Ham and worried manager David Moyes refused to be drawn on the extent of his injury until tests had been carried out.

Enough to make you weep: Cahill comforted by Pienaar

Although the results had still to be confirmed last night, Moyes was bracing himself for confirmation that the 28-year old Australia international had sustained another fracture and would miss the rest of Everton's push for a Champions League place.

Moyes will be hoping that his team's morale will hold up despite the news about Cahill, with the key match in their campaign — the Merseyside derby at Anfield — coming up on Sunday.

Everton trail city rivals Liverpool by two points.
