EXCLUSIVE: Chambers Rugby League deal shock

Shamed sprinter Dwain Chambers is being lined up for a sensational switch to rugby league. Super League side Castleford have held talks with the 29-year-old and could unveil him as early as Monday if a deal can be struck.

Chambers, who was banned for two years in 2003 for knowingly taking the banned drug THG, returned to athletics earlier this month, winning a silver medal in the World Indoor Championships 60m final.

But he hinted he would retire from the sport, frustrated that the British Olympic Association are still opposed to his participation in Beijing this summer despite his insistence that he now competes drug-free.

Chambers, who has also flirted unsuccessfully with American football, said: 'There may not be a return after this. If there's not a chance to go forward, I'll go and pursue a career elsewhere.'

That now looks to be at the Jungle Stadium in rugby league's West Yorkshire hotbed, even though he has never played the sport.

Cas revealed last night they will hold a 'significant' press conference on Monday.

But the bold move will attract criticism and concern within the sport. Rugby league is proud of its zero tolerance towards drug abuse and will be wary of the adverse publicity Chambers' move would attract.

Castleford chief executive Richard Wright was not available for comment last night.
