Former Derby, West Ham and Manchester City striker Paulo Wanchope has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with Chicago Fire.

"Wanchope has passed his medical and agreed all the details of his contract with the (club) president," said Chicago Fire's press officer Dan Jankowski.

"We expect to sign the contract and give a press conference on Friday."

Wanchope will be Chicago's second international star signing, following Mexico international Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who scored in his Fire debut last Sunday.

Wanchope played in England with Derby, West Ham and Man City.

He left England in 2004 to join Spanish outfit Malaga. Since then Wanchope has played with Qatar's Al-Gharafa, Costa Rica's CS Herediano, Argentina's Rosario Central and Japanese club FC Tokyo.
