FA Cup final D-Day for Portsmouth goalkeeper David James

David James will discover today whether he still has a chance of playing for Portsmouth in the FA Cup Final when he undergoes a scan on his torn calf muscle.

The England goalkeeper has missed Portsmouth's last two League games, against Blackburn and Middlesbrough, and has been told by manager Harry Redknapp that he will not figure against Cardiff at Wembley on Saturday week unless he is fully fit.

Redknapp said: 'I am hoping the scan will show that the tear is healing. But I am not going to risk him at Wembley if he is not 100 per cent fit.

'The problem with David is that he is a maniac for training. He needs to rest the calf but I have a job keeping him off the training pitch.'

Portsmouth have lost both games without James, who was recently named in the PFA's Premier League team of the year. Reserve keeper Jamie Ashdown has conceded three goals in his absence.
