Fergie relishes new tussle with Arsenal

Sir Alex Ferguson has paved the way for a resumption of his rivalry with Arsene Wenger after marking out Arsenal as the main challengers to Manchester United's Premier League crown.

United manager Ferguson admits he has been impressed by the way the north London club have started the campaign with an unbeaten run that has brought five victories from their opening six league games.

Saha: Scared he would not play again

"They have started the season well," Ferguson said. "Their form has been very good and they have produced some very good performances. It's going to make it an interesting League."

Ferguson also launched a strenuous defence of his own players ahead of today's visit to Birmingham, claiming the return to fitness of Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Louis Saha and Anderson will add a more effective cutting edge to his side's defensive efforts.

He said: "We have played three teams this year who have not had a corner kick. Can you tell me another team in the world who have had that statistic?

"We would have liked more goals but the performance level has been very good."

Meanwhile, Saha has revealed that he feared he would never played for United again as a result of the injury problems which have plagued him this year.

The 29-year-old striker, who had to see a psychologist after suffering a series of knee, groin and hamstring injuries, said: "I was scared about not playing any more.

"I was really down because I couldn't achieve anything I wanted to do, although I would never stop playing football . . . even if I only had one leg!"
