Fergie still has faith in Heinze

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Gabriel Heinze will not let him down should the defender's bid to force a move to arch-rivals Liverpool fail.

The Argentinian goes to the Premier League for a ruling on August 20 after the Red Devils refused to sanction a move to Anfield despite the player being in possession of latter which stipulates he can leave if any club meets his £6.8million transfer fee.

United officials contend the letter, signed by chief executive David Gill, does not over-ride the Argentina defender's contract, which still has two years to run.

Ferguson has remained bullish over United's position and he is more than willing to welcome Heinze back into the squad should the Premier League side with United.

"Gabriel Heinze has not become an alien within the squad at all. He is a very popular player within the club," said Ferguson.

"Obviously the meeting on August 20 will settle it one way or another. We think we have a good case. They probably think they have a good case too or they wouldn't have gone this far.

"Once it is settled, it is out of the way. If he is still a Manchester United player, he will be treated accordingly.

"He is a warrior and a fighter. He won't let us down."
