Fergie surprised Liverpool paid £20m to sign Keane from Spurs

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted his surprise at big-money purchase of Robbie Keane.

The boss was happy to pay £30.75m to sign Dimitar Berbatov from but he has questioned the £20m Rafa Benitez paid to lure Keane from White Hart Lane.

United face bitter rivals Liverpool on Saturday and asked if any pre-season transfers had impressed him, Fergie said: 'The big surprise was Liverpool paying £20million for Keane.'

Keane has yet to score after playing five games since his move from Spurs.
