Ferguson rules out late bid for 'marvellous' Berbatov

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will not try to buy Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov - despite seeing his attacking options further reduced this week by the retirement of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
With Cristiano Ronaldo suspended, Wayne Rooney crocked and Louis Saha just returning from injury, Ferguson will be forced to persist with new boys Carlos Tevez and Nani for the visit of Sunderland tomorrow.
Going nowhere: Dimitar Berbatov is staying at White Hart Lane
Speaking in an interview with Des Lynam to be broadcast on Setanta this evening, the Scot said: "He [Berbatov] is a marvellous player, you saw that on Sunday [against United].
"We've looked at the market but it's difficult when you get to August. You have to be careful you don't dive into the market and make mistakes. I think we have enough quality here.
"If we don't get anyone in - and it looks very unlikely now - then we'll carry on with the lads that we've got."
Ferguson says he is looking forward to pitting his wits against Sunderland boss Roy Keane, his former captain at United, who he says has the makings of an excellent manager.
"He's got all the ingredients," added Ferguson. "He's intelligent, strong-minded, he can make a decision - that's a great start. But he's in the big pool now - in amongst the sharks."
Des Lynam interviews Sir Alex Ferguson on The Friday Football Show at 6.30pm tonight, exclusively on Setanta Sports 1. For the full version, watch Des Meets Sir Alex at 11.30pm on the same channel. Man United v Sunderland is exclusively live on Setanta Sports 1 tomorrow at 5.15pm. To subscribe visit www.setanta.com or call: 08712 00 33 22
