Flintoff: I cannot wait to get back to the action

England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is desperate to get back in action with the Lions tomorrow - but concedes it will still be some time before he is back to his best.

The Lancashire man has not played a competitive match for more than four months but will join up with England's second team for their run of three one-day matches, starting in Mumbai tomorrow.

Working hard: Andrew Flintoff is keen to return to action

He will play as a specialist batsman as he bids to regain full fitness following an operation on a troublesome ankle problem.

Flintoff, 30, said: "It will be great to play again. Everything has been going well but you can only do so much net practice. I'm ready for a match.

"I'll be playing as a batsman and fielder and I think I'll be batting at number five. In fact I haven't bowled a ball since the operation. I'm still taking things steadily on that score."

And although he reiterated that expectations should not be high when he takes his first tentative steps back to the crease, he enthused about his time with David Parsons' side.

"My time with the Lions has been brilliant. It's great to be around a cricket team again and they are a terrific bunch of lads. People shouldn't expect too much from me in terms of scoring lots of runs, although it would be nice."
