Chester wound up

Chester City were wound up at a High Court hearing in London today, while Cardiff City and Southend have been given deadlines to settle their own claims.

The 126-year-old club, who owed HM Revenue & Customs £26,125 in unpaid taxes, failed to fulfil their last two Blue Square Premier fixtures and were kicked out of the Football Conference last month.

Championship club Cardiff were given 56 days and League One Southend 35 days to settle winding-up claims.

Chester supporters' group City Fans United have vowed to resurrect the club.

A spokesman said: "Our model is AFC Wimbledon or AFC Telford, where a new club has been run on a very prudent basis. We want to atone for the way the club has been run — we see this as our responsibility even though it wasn't our fault. Our club will be run in a professional way."
