Dougie Freedman's 'love' for Darren Ambrose

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman paid tribute to Darren Ambrose after the midfielder's spectacular 25-yard volley secured all three points against relegation rivals Sheffield United on Saturday.

The former Newcastle man nearly followed Neil Warnock across London to Queens Park Rangers last summer but stayed loyal to Palace - much to Freedman's delight. "He knows how much I love him and he will always play in my team," said the Palace boss. "Darren deserves a lot of credit.

"A few injuries have not helped him but he's been so dedicated at the training ground and I've told youngsters to look at the way he trains."

Palace are now five points clear of the relegation zone and are unbeaten at Selhurst Park since October.
