FA will not take action against Andre Villas-Boas despite rant about Howard Webb

The Football Association today decided not to take any disciplinary action against Andre Villas-Boas despite the Chelsea boss accusing referee Howard Webb of 'losing control' during Chelsea's 3-3 draw with Manchester United.

The Chelsea boss, fined £12,000 and warned of his future conduct when he criticised referee Chris Foy after a 1-0 defeat to QPR in October, blamed Webb for his side's failure to win yesterday.

Chelsea led 3-0 after 50 minutes before Webb awarded two penalties, the second of which Villas-Boas described as "absurd".

He believes Webb buckled under pressure - the official turned down two United penalties in the first half - after Branislav Ivanovic made contact with Danny Welbeck. Wayne Rooney netted both spot kicks before Javier Hernandez equalised.

His comments in the press conference were damning: "We expect in top games top refs and at the moment, it hasn't been happening for us. The second penalty is very, very dubious."

But, in a Match of the Day interview, he said: "We lost control of the game and the referee lost control of the game. The first penalty is well given, the second is absurd."

However, after studying a tape of the comments, the FA have decided he has no case to answer.
