Gary Cahill's so down after blowing chance

Gary Cahill had only previously convinced Andre Villas-Boas to play him twice since his £7million move from Bolton before last night's defeat at Napoli and the centre-back admits he blew his chance to impress with a nightmare performance.
Within the first five minutes it was evident the defender was in for a difficult night, when he was caught out of position from a speculative Paolo Cannavaro long ball which let in the home side's Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The Argentine missed that chance but Cahill continued to look shaky as his side shipped three avoidable goals on his first Champions League outing. "It wasn't a nice debut," he said.
"As you can see, I'm ridiculously disappointed. Disappointed with the result, the night and my Champions League debut. So it was a pretty low night for myself actually. Yes, the pitch was very difficult. You could see everyone was slipping all over the place. But it's no excuse for simple,
basic things. The main thing was that the goals came from a lot of long balls, which is bread and butter for people like myself.
"If we were getting caught open it might be different but it was simple things that went wrong last night.
"I think you can blame a number of things - the pitch and all the rest of it. It was a disappointing night all round even though it was my Champions League debut.
"It was a bad result and not a debut I will remember fondly."
And the 26-year-old believes that it was not only the Blues concentration and skill levels that were to blame for the defeat but also their tactical approach.
"For some reason it seemed really open instead of really solid, which we should have been," he said.
"It started off brilliantly. Obviously we were frustrating them early on, they made a mistake and we got the goal. We should have shut the door then, made everything really compact and gone in at half-time 1-0 up but it wasn't to be. I think we were too easily cut open."
