Gianluca Vialli warns John Terry over move

Gianluca Vialli has told John Terry he'll be making a mistake if he leaves Chelsea for Manchester City just to increase his salary.

Terry is still to publicly commit his future to the club amid strong interest from Manchester City, who are prepared to make him the highest-paid player in the world on £200,000 a week plus bonuses.

Chelsea hope to resolve the situation before they fly to Seattle for the start of their pre-season tour of the USA on Thursday.

Vialli, who handed Terry his professional debut against Aston Villa in October 1998, is in no doubt what the defender should do. He said: "John has been at the club all his career and it'll be a big decision to go because of money.

"I understand a player thinking about supporting his family but at the end of your career I don't see what is the difference between having 50 or £61million in the bank. You are still very wealthy. I don't think he will leave Chelsea."

Terry is paid £130,000 a week at Chelsea and the club are believed to be prepared to give him a pay-rise to take his earnings up to £150,000 a week.

One of the 28-year-old's other concerns is the lack of quality signings Chelsea have made this summer but they appear to be closing in on AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

The 30-year-old is also wanted by Atletico Madrid but reports in Spain say the club have pulled out of the race because they believe he is going to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Florent Malouda is not worried at the prospect of having to compete with new £18m signing Yuri Zhirkov for a place in the side next season.

Zhirkov poses a threat as he can play at left-wing as well as left-back but Malouda said: "He is a good player and you know when you are in the Chelsea squad that there is competition between everyone. It's not a problem for me, it's a good thing for the club."
