Harry Redknapp: Critics are off the wall

Harry Redknapp has hit back at criticism of his Tottenham team following their recent slump in form.

Although Spurs occupy fourth place in the Premier League table, results have been disappointing for a club with genuine ambitions of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Tottenham were booed off after the FA Cup draw with League One Leeds at White Hart Lane on Saturday, having left the pitch to a similar chorus of disapproval after the 0-0 draw with Hull.

They suffered a 2-0 defeat at Anfield last week and with Liverpool being direct rivals for a top-four finish, Spurs had hoped their FA Cup performance would send out a message of intent.

But Redknapp today pointed out that his side were still in pole position in the title race, ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa.

He said: "People are saying we've hit a wall are they? We've lost one in 10. If that's a brick wall let's hope we keep hitting it for the rest of the season.

"I don't listen to what people are saying because I have my own opinion about how we are doing.

"It doesn't interest me. I know how well we have done. We have just had six clean sheets and one defeat in 10. If that's a bad run then my God! We came out on Saturday and could have been 4-0 up in 25 minutes."

Spurs can consolidate fourth spot by beating London rivals Fulham at White Hart Lane tomorrow night.

But they will probably have to make do without striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. The Russian came off the bench to score the second goal in Saturday's shock draw with Leeds but is now struggling for fitness.

Redknapp said: "He's picked up a groin strain and hasn't been able to train today. He's going for a scan to see if there is any damage in there."

Centre-back Ledley King and midfielder Tom Huddlestone could make welcome returns but Aaron Lennon is still sidelined with the winger scheduled for a scan on his troublesome groin today.

Fulham have struggled away from home this season but Redknapp is taking nothing for granted. He said: "Fulham are a good side. Roy Hodgson has done a fantastic job with them.

"But we are playing well at the moment. We came across two goalkeepers in our last two home games who had world-class games. That's how it goes sometimes in football."
