It rains on Mark Halsey's parade

Mark Halsey's return to football since recovering from throat cancer was wrecked by a sudden downpour last night.

Halsey was due to referee Barnet's match at Accrington Stanley, his first game for seven months.

But the 48-year-old was forced to call off the League Two game less than an hour before kick-off. There were puddles all over an infamously dodgy pitch so the hardened band of Barnet supporters that had made the trip to Lancashire were left frustrated.

At least they could console themselves on the wasted journey back how much harder it was for referee Halsey.
