John Terry's wary of talking up Blues' chances of winning the Double

Talk of Chelsea winning a Double has gathered momentum since their triumph over Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final but the only brace on captain John Terry's mind this week is the forthcoming League fixtures against Bolton and Tottenham.

They take place over the next five days and are of massive importance for the leaders, especially after Manchester United's draw at Blackburn yesterday. The result ensured Carlo Ancelotti's side are crucially still one point ahead with a game in hand.

Two victories will put Ancelotti on the verge of winning the Premier League in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, yet Terry is all too aware that the opposition lying in wait are ready to spoil the party.

Both teams have helped bring about Chelsea's downfall in the past three seasons and the England defender is fully aware they have the potential to make it a fourth.

Bolton, who take on Chelsea at the Bridge tomorrow night, secured costly draws in SW6 in April 2007 and on the final day of the season a year later.

Both results were seen as defining points of the campaign, with United taking advantage to secure huge wins at Everton and Wigan respectively to go on to win the title.

Bolton's performance in 2008 was all the more telling for Chelsea and United went into the last fixture of the campaign only separated on goal difference in the title race.

Tottenham, who Chelsea face at White Hart Lane on Saturday, have enjoyed inflicting telling blows on their London rivals at this time of the year too, having fought hard for a 4-4 draw on home soil two years ago and handing then manager Guus Hiddink his only defeat during his successful three-month reign last term.

Such memories have haunted Terry ever since and ensured that the excitement of Chelsea beating Aston Villa on Saturday was soon quashed.

As far as the 29-year-old captain is concerned, the hard work is still ahead of them, starting with Bolton tomorrow night.

He said: "Talk of the Double is in the back of our minds. Winning the semi- final has moved us a step closer but we're focusing on the Premier League right now and the FA Cup is in the background.

"We had a day off yesterday but now we have to go again. The title is back in our hands, that's the main thing. We let it slip before and we're determined not to let it go again.

"It's important that when we do play Bolton, who are down near the bottom and fighting for survival, we make sure we match their desire.

"Bolton have caused us a lot of problems in recent years when we have been going for the title. We drew 2-2 at home a few years ago, then it was 1-1 in the final game of the season when ourselves and United went into it level on points. Even last year we were 4-0 up and cruising and they came back to make it 4-3.

"Then we have Tottenham on Saturday. A couple of seasons ago we would have talked about going there and getting a win but they have done well against us, too. They're a really good side and tough to beat.

"However, we have momentum on our side and have probably got it at the right time. We're playing well and aiming to extend our lead at the top."

The spirit in the Chelsea camp is certainly back at an all-time high even though Terry came under fire from Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill for a strong tackle on James Milner in the second half on Saturday.

It is understood Terry spoke with his England colleague Milner about the incident after the final whistle and the duo parted on good terms.

Chelsea's 3-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Frank Lampard, also set a new club record for the most goals scored in a season with six games remaining. They have now netted 122 times in 50 matches, beating the mark of 121 in 56 games set in 1964-65.
