Jonathan Greening requests transfer

West Brom captain Jonathan Greening has handed in a written transfer request.

The midfielder, 30, was the subject of what Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace on Tuesday labelled as a "derisory" bid from Fulham for his services, believed to be £2million plus a player.

Contrary to reports, however, Greening submitted the letter last week, before the bid arrived from the Cottagers and not after.

Albion still have a new four-year contract offer on the table ready for Greening to sign, but he has stressed his desire for another shot at the Barclays Premier League following the club's relegation back in May.

Despite the request, the midlands outfit are keen to hold on to his services and Greening himself has promised to stay and help secure an immediate return to the top flight if a move does not materialise.

The former Manchester United youngster - who arrived from Middlesbrough back in 2004 and has made over 200 appearances for the Baggies - still has a year, plus a further 12 months in Albion's favour, remaining on his current deal.

Today's news comes just days after Paul Robinson became the first high-profile name to leave The Hawthorns having completed a switch to Bolton, although goalkeeper Scott Carson has pledged to remain at the club.
