Leyton Orient's hockey stadium bid fails

The Olympic Park Legacy Company today dismissed Leyton Orient's bid to move to a 15,000-seat stadium at Eton Manor on the Stratford site.

Baroness Ford, chairman of the OPLC, was questioned at a London Assembly scrutiny meeting about Barry Hearn's call for Orient to move to the Olympic Hockey Stadium. The plan was a compromise after Orient threatened legal action over West Ham's selection as Stadium tenants.

Ford said Eton Manor falls under the remit of the Lea Valley Park Authority and that the masterplan clearly contained an obligation to deliver much recreational land and employment space on the site.

She added: "Why would you put two football stadia in the Olympic Park in place of much-needed recreational and employment space?"

Jimmy Smith's first-half volley at Huddersfield last night sealed a club record of 14 games without defeat.
