My ‘punch-up’ with Jeremy Kyle

It has been just over a week since I left Dagenham and Redbridge for Charlton but some key differences between the clubs mean I have already settled in.

While I am full of respect for the way my old club operates, there is no doubt that my new one has amazing facilities which are of Premier League standard.

For example, I'm happy that in the weights room there is a plasma TV on the wall. I can now be easily distracted by Jeremy Kyle when I am doing weights. It's a bit of a luxury and I throw a few harder punches on the punch-bag when I see his show on TV.

I also had a much easier time of it when it came to my initiation ceremony in front of the rest of the lads. At Dagenham we would make the new guys sing and dance and really put them through the wringer.

But all I had to do was sing in front of the Charlton lads on my first away trip to Exeter last week. I chose Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley and didn't do it any justice at all.

Although there were a few bread rolls thrown at me I got a clap afterwards so I was happy with that.

While I have found it very easy to settle into my new club off the pitch, I am still having to get used to a new system and way of playing.

It is not ideal to start a new season with one club and move to another a few weeks later because I now feel like I am playing catch-up.

My transfer didn't go quickly at all. It was probably a month from when Dagenham manager John Still first sat me down and told me Charlton had made an offer to finally signing on the dotted line.

In truth, if a player could pick the time they would like to move it would be at the start of pre-season so they can get used to a team's style of play before the League begins.

Obviously some people will talk about my transfer fee [around £250,000]. While I think it's irrelevant, it may not be to the supporters.
I understand what I did for Dagenham [84 goals in 201 games] means nothing to Charlton and I just want to get my first goal for them.

There are no excuses, I have been brought to the club to score goals. I have settled in so it's time to start delivering.

Hopefully, I will get off the mark against Notts County on Saturday.
