Mystery £30m buy-out could keep Jonjo Shelvey at The Valley

Charlton are on the verge of a £30million takeover, which should keep Jonjo Shelvey at the club.

Chelsea are among several Premier League clubs to have shown interest in the 17-year-old midfielder but they will be warned off under a wealthier new regime.

Former chief executive Peter Varney is fronting the takeover bid for a mystery backer, who has promised to put Charlton on a stable financial footing.
