Robbie Keane lauds Redknapp's Spurs impact

Tottenham skipper Robbie Keane believes Harry Redknapp has the edge on foreign managers with language-barrier problems - and he has thanked his boss for his start to the season after struggling at Liverpool a year ago.

Keane had not found the target for his club at this stage of the last campaign and Redknapp eventually brought him back to White Hart Lane in January, appointing him skipper and ending his Anfield misery.

So far this season Keane has six goals, including four in the 5-0 win over Burnley.

With Spurs hoping to challenge for a Champions League place and Republic of Ireland looking to reach the World Cup, Keane's positive start to the season contrasts to 12 months ago when he could not find goalscoring form under Rafael Benitez.

"Things are looking good," Keane said. "On the international front we'll see the outcome of that in a couple of weeks. Domestically we've been fantastic."

Keane has no doubt over who is responsible for Spurs' form, with Redknapp's men in the top four after seven Barclays Premier League games.

"The manager's been fantastic to all of us," Keane said.

"He speaks perfect English which helps. I'm not talking about anyone before but he gets his point across and you know exactly what he means.

"The players respond to that. As a football man he knows the way he wants to play and it suits us because we like to get the ball down and pass and counter attack. He has been brilliant so far for Tottenham."

Keane has played for Spaniards, a Dutchman and an Italian in recent seasons - and the one thing he does not have to worry about with Redknapp is the manager getting his views across.

"It takes a while for people to come in and get their ideas across," Keane said. "Sometimes it is difficult to get it across the way they really want to.

"With Harry you know exactly what he's saying and what he wants you to do. The lads seem to be responding."

Keane highlighted how Redknapp keeps his players confident. Many expected Peter Crouch to start against Burnley after his midweek hat-trick against Preston but Redknapp's decision to start with Keane was vindicated.

"He keeps players confident," Keane said. "The reality is it's a long season and you're not going to play every game. With the players we have here there are times you are going to be left out.

"If we want to progress and do well as a team and push into that top four we have to have other lads playing ahead of you."
