Sol Campbell ready to answer England World Cup call

Arsenal veteran Sol Campbell is refusing to give up hope on a stunning England recall for the World Cup this summer.

The 35-year-old, in his second spell at Arsenal after earning a contract until the end of the season, won the last of his 73 England caps more than two years ago and has never been selected by Fabio Capello.

Campbell, who began the campaign in League Two with Notts County, was given a contract until the end of the season by Wenger.

He partnered Thomas Vermaelen in the middle of Arsenal's defence last night and, when asked about a possible England recall, Campbell said: "You never know. I might get a sniff here or there if I keep on playing. Why not?"

Last night represented Campbell's first game for Arsenal at Emirates Stadium and the defender added: "It was great. It's a fantastic stadium and it was good to be out there with the lads. It's fantastic for Arsenal to be in the quarter-finals."

Campbell admits he will have to step up his fitness if he is needed for an extended run. "If required I have to do something about it to keep it going," he said.

"I'm level-headed, I'm not going to get carried away but it's good to be back and in this kind of environment.

"I'm going to relish the moments and respect the situation I'm in and give everything I've got for Arsenal."
