'Special' Smith key to World Cup push

Faye White believes star striker Kelly Smith can inspire England to glory at the Women's World Cup in Germany.

Hope Powell's team kick-off their campaign against Mexico in Wolfsburg tonight hoping to improve on their run to the quarter-finals in China four years ago.

White, who plays for Arsenal Ladies and will captain the side, was full of praise for Smith.

She said: "Kelly brings something special to this team. She has shown in the last few tournaments what she can do and I certainly hope that she can deliver. This one is special for her and the team."
