Turner prize for London pair

Michael Turner's £6million move from Hull to Sunderland has generated a £1m windfall for his previous clubs Brentford and Charlton that will help them stay afloat.

The defender originally moved from his first club Charlton to Brentford in 2004 and when he was sold to Hull for £350,000 two years later, the struggling Bees could not afford to pay the sell-on fee.

But Charlton struck a deal to roll over most of their payment to a larger percentage of any future sell-on fee, which means they will now get a much-needed £1m, while Brentford will get an extra £750,000 on top of their original fee.

Andrew Mills, who did the deal as director of football at Charlton and has since moved to Brentford, said: "I am delighted to say it has been a win-win situation for both clubs.

"I am pleased for Charlton because it is a lot of money for them and Brentford have done very well out of it too."

The Bees play Charlton, who have got off to a cracking start in League One, this weekend and Mills added: "We play each other on Saturday so there should be plenty to talk about."
