Warnock fails in new loan bid for Beattie

Crystal Palace have failed with a bid to re-sign West Brom striker Craig Beattie.

The Eagles were keen to secure Beattie, 25, on a short-term loan deal after he impressed during a similar spell at the club last season, scoring five goals in 15 games.

But the Baggies refused to countenance a move, insisting they would only let Beattie leave permanently.

The Scottish striker is out of Palace's price range, so manager Neil Warnock will move on to other targets as he seeks to bolster his strikeforce.

Meanwhile, Watford want to sign Ireland under-21 winger Jay O'Shea.

The Hornets have watched O'Shea play for Galway United but could face a battle for his signature with Middlesbrough.
