France prolong Anelka agony for Megson

France coach Raymond Domenech will wait for the verdict of his medical staff before deciding whether to return striker Nicolas Anelka to Bolton.

Despite missing the last four Bolton games with a hamstring injury, Anelka reported for international duty ahead of Les Bleus' friendly against Morocco on Friday and their vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Ukraine on November 21.

Domenech understands the English club's concerns but is set to keep the frontman with the rest of the France squad.

"Anelka will see the doctor," said Domenech.

"If he's fit, then he will stay with us, otherwise he will return to his club.

"But in my opinion the best way for him to recover is with the national team. There are four physios, and nothing else to do but get treatment."

Anelka is not due to return to the Bolton side until early December after being told he would be out for six weeks.

And boss Gary Megson believes it will be "a nightmare" for the Premier League strugglers if he features for Les Bleus.

"Nicolas has to go, we know that, so they can see what state he is in," said Megson.

"He has this tear on his hamstring and the prognosis was six weeks on the sidelines.

"It would be a huge mistake if they said he had to stay, then train and play. It would be a nightmare for Nick and for us."
