From softie to star: How the Premier League has made Fernando Torres

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has gone from softie to explosive striker after just seven months in the Premier League, believes Italian skipper Fabio Cannavaro.

The Spanish striker may have drawn a blank at Old Trafford on Sunday, but he has scored 27 goals since his summer move to Anfield.

And Real Madrid defender Cannavaro, who faced the 24-year-old when he played for city rivals Atletico, said: "He has made an incredible improvement.

"Last year I saw him as a bit of a softie, someone who hid, but then he went to the Premier League, where you can't be a softie, and exploded."
