Frustrated Boothroyd is looking for answers

Aidy Boothroyd was today holding an inquisition into the 3-0 defeat at home to Barnsley that may have wrecked Watford's hopes of automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

The Hornets manager said: "I'll be asking some questions. With the players of the quality I've got, I'm very disappointed. I'd like a few answers and I'll be doing a lot of listening."

Boothroyd will want to know why Watford now lie fifth in the Championship table when an anticipated victory over Sunday's beaten FA Cup semi-finalists would have seen them leapfrog West Brom and go top.

The Hornets travel to the Hawthorns on Saturday and Boothroyd admitted: "To have gone there above West Brom would have been very nice.

"The game against Barnsley was there for the winning. They had a bad weekend and you think you can take advantage of things like that.

"But when you can't score from three and four yards, when you don't defend set-plays correctly, and when you get caught on the counter attack, you don't deserve to win."

Barnsley striker Kayode Odejayi, whose nightmare miss against Cardiff at Wembley cost the Tykes dearly, netted a brace of goals either side of Stephen Foster's header to lift Barnsley out of the relegation zone.

Home supporters generously applauded the Nigerian when he was substituted just before the final whistle. But then loudly jeered their own players at the end.

Boothroyd said. "We deserved it. But what we want now is to bounce back quickly, go to the best team in the League and beat them."
