Fulham fail in swoop for Naylor

Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez has failed in a bid to lure Celtic defender Lee Naylor back to English football.

The Craven Cottage club targeted the former Wolves left-back and were willing to pay in the region of £1.5million for his services - a useful profit on the £600,000 Celtic paid the Molineux club a year ago.

Naylor was a standout performer for Gordon Strachan last season and his form has alerted English clubs. However, the Parkhead manager has dismissed a tentative inquiry from the London outfit and is determined to hold on to the 27-year-old.

Former Northern Ireland manager Sanchez told Sportsmail: "I made an inquiry to Gordon about Lee Naylor but that was as far as it got because Gordon immediately told me that the player wasn't available for transfer. That was the end of the matter."

Sanchez also played down talk of a move north for Fulham's German defender Moritz Volz, insisting that the SPL champions have not been in contact concerning the right-back.
