Wembley made a pre-tax loss of more than £50million, it has been revealed in the stadium’s full accounts today.

Two weeks ago, Wembley National Stadium Ltd produced a summary of its finances and announced that in the nine months until 31 December the operating loss before interest and tax was £21.2m.

But it has emerged the pre-tax loss was £53.3m, leading to a final overall loss after tax of £36.1m.

The directors’ report described the situation as “satisfactory” but said the continued success of selling Club Wembley box and premium seats was important.

“The loss of £36m is significant although this includes £12m of interest payable to the Football Association, which will not recur, and only nine months of operating income,” the report added.
