Furious Spurs will force United to pay 'record fee' for Berbatov

Top brass at will make pay a record transfer for much wanted Dimitar Berbatov.

White Hart Lane chief Daniel Levy was reportedly furious with claims that United were on the verge of competing a deal for the 27-year-old hitman, before Spurs had even received a formal offer - according to The Mirror.

Now they will demand a British record fee in excess of £32million - the amount United agreed to pay to complete the full transfer of Carlos Tevez - before allowing the  Bulgarian to go to Old Trafford.

While Spurs had put a £30million price tag on Berbatov, sources say they had been privately willing to settle for £28million.

That would represent an £18million profit on the player they signed from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 and has scored 23 goals in each of his two campaigns for the White Hart Lane club.

On top of this senior figures at Spurs' have been accusing United of  talking up a 'phantom ' £20million bid for Thierry Henry in an effort to rush them in a panic sale.
