Gaffney relieved after Saracens fightback

Saracens director of rugby Alan Gaffney was a relieved man after seeing his side fight back from 26-3 down at halftime to secure a Heineken Cup Pool Four victory in Viadana.

Saracens scored 31 unanswered points in the second half — much to the relief of Gaffney, who had warned all week that his side faced a tough afternoon in northern Italy.

He said: 'A lot of people may not have believed me when I said we would face a difficult game here this afternoon — especially after our comprehensive victory last week. But they brought back most of their international players and I've been to Italy enough times with various sides and only just escaped with a win.'

The home side ran in four tries in the opening 40 minutes but Glen Jackson led the fightback with a personal haul of 19 points and tries for David Seymour, Richard Haughton and a penalty try clinched the win.
