Gallas sidelined for three weeks after clash with 'violent' Blackburn

Arsenal expect captain William Gallas to be sidelined for three weeks with the groin injury he suffered at Blackburn.

The defender went down in agony off after hurdling a 24th-minute challenge from Roque Santa Cruz in yesterday's 1-1 Barclays Premier League draw.

He immediately called for assistance from the bench and, a few minutes later, hobbled off to be replaced by Philippe Senderos.

"He has done his groin, I knew it straight away," manager Arsene Wenger said on the club's official website, www.arsenal.com.

"He will be out for three weeks."

Wenger accused Blackburn players of 'a desire of violence' after an Ewood Park clash that reignited all the ill-feeling that has turned this fixture into an ugly affair.

Four yellow cards each and a red for Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen left Arsenal manager Wenger unable to resist a jibe at Mark Hughes after their recent seasons of verbal sparring.

Wenger fumed: "We were resilient against a team that was over-physical. There was sometimes a desire of violence more than commitment in some challenges and we dealt well with the problems."

Blackburn boss Hughes said: "It's a cheap shot. He's hiding behind those comments because his side was dominated. I'm deeply disappointed."
